The plants I started in the soil blocks did not do as well as I had hoped, so, I ended up having to start some new plants in loose soil as the blocks I made were too compact for the roots to spread as they are supposed to. Those new plants I started I moved either into bigger pots or outside into our hothouse. (More on hot houses in a later post.) I also started seeds directly in the hot house which worked great and almost all of the seeds came up and are still growing strong.
All of the seeds I planted in the hot house I will move into beds later as the soil warms, this will also give me time to expand the beds, top dress them and or make them into hugel beds. I have already done several hugel beds so far and hope this will keep the beds mole proof as they are working quite well already, as you can see to the right.
Everything is looking a little sad but starting to bud out as the weather is getting warmer. Which makes every gardener a little crazy having to wait for the cold to pass. I transplanted some of the things I overwintered in my little greenhouse and put them in the newly expanded beds that will also help to accommodate all the new herbs I want to grow. I have lots of plans for this year's garden and hope to be able to get lots of seeds from the many varieties of plants I grow.
