There is always change on any homestead; in the gardens, amongst the animals and on the land~ throughout the seasons. During the increase we are glad for it and happy to make accommodations for the blessings. Our big builder around here is Jr. Farmer and I captured him in some action shots to share with our friends!
In nature, rabbits like to create burrows for their upcoming litter of kits, filling it with warm bits of leaves, dried grasses and their own fiber to carefully nestle the kittens who are first born hairless. Interestingly, hares (different than rabbits) are born with fur.
Providing safe housing for your angoras includes offering them our best mimicry of God's design by creating a dark, warm house for the kits. They love to grab mouthfuls of the extra straw and hay we offer over and over again; jumping in and out of the nest box until it fits their design plan. Finally, the mom gently pads it with plenty of her fiber pulled first from her sides and underbelly. It's really a treat to watch this nesting habit.
After the mom delivers and carefully cleans her rabbits, inside the nest box, they snuggle deep into her soft fiber nest; snoozing, until they feel the stirring of her jumping in to sit carefully while they turn themselves on their backs to nurse. It is the cutest thing to see those little rabbit feet sticking out around her middle as they suckle quickly before returning to more snoozing and growing!
What a blessing it is to have the family involved in the care of our fuzzy fiber producers!

While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. Genesis 8:22
