This weekend we were happy to share our kool-aid ice-dyeing with the 4-H'ers of King County at the King County Fair! Their Wool Superintendent, Tani Adams, eager to open more doors of understanding for her students, invited us to share some of our fun approaches to working with our wools. We decided summer was a great time to utilize typical items from your home, in a creative way! Most of these teens were raising beautiful llamas and Alpacas and although the day was a bit overcast, we shared our way of harnessing the sun's energy to set our sweet smelling dyes.
After the demo. they sprinkled some of our wool with their favorite colors and you could see their bright minds turning and considering ways to use this technique on their own, with children they care for, or friends and family!
As we wait for submissions from their creative home dyeing experiments, I'll include the instructions we generated for all to see... A big THANK YOU to all that attended and their great questions (these began even before our presentation) and to the lovely Mom's that talked fiber with us afterward - did you know that llama fiber can be just as fine or finer than some alpaca? Their llamas had some of the most gorgeous, spotted coloring, they were a treat to see!
